All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven, Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell, and Six Of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

Most Juan Diego students can agree on reading period not being the best period of the day. Reading can be boring and it just takes more effort than watching your favorite Netflix shows. Here’s three books that you should consider reading during reading period.

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell, published September 10, 2013

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell is your typical young adult novel. If you enjoy those Netflix chick flicks like To all the boys I’ve Loved Before, The Edge of Seventeen or The Spectacular Now, then you will enjoy this book. The book starts with the average main character Cath, who is attending her first year of college to become a writer. The story follows her journey through writing and her new found relationship. There’s never a dull moment in this book and you will find it to be quite a page turner despite the average plot.

For action and fantasy lovers, Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo is a perfect book. It starts off in the slums of a big port city and follows the characters of a small gang led by a young criminal prodigy. The very extraordinary group of young low-lifes perform a deadly heist in order to become rich and take revenge on the people who brought them together. The book has more plot twists in the last chapter than in many other books alone.

All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven, published January 6, 2015

If you enjoyed “The Fault in Our Stars” or “Looking for Alaska” by John Green then you will definitely enjoy this book by Jennifer Niven. The book, All the Bright Places takes place in a small town in Indianapolis. The main character, Violet Markey, is a teenager who is suffering with the loss of her sister and finds herself at the top of the school bell tower where she meets Theodore Finch.  Finch is known for being a “freak” at his school, who is obsessed with death. Finch is slowly helping Violet get over her depression and loss of her sister, all while getting more depressed and in a worse place. The book is a perfect mixture of love, sadness and beautiful writing and quotes. All the Bright Places is definitely a book worth your attention and time, you won’t regret reading it.
