Sometime in September the administration and the student body announced that there would be a pep rally held at the end of the homecoming week. This pep rally was to be held on September 9th. The day before the homecoming dance. The pep rally was set up in the main gym of Juan Diego Catholic High School and it was said to have fun activities for the different grades to compete. The way they would compete was by having a couple of students from each grade do the game that was set up for that time, and the winning person would get points for their whole grade. At the end of the pep rally that would determine the winning grade for the whole thing. The pep rally also came with some benefits for the winning grade, such as a spirit dress day that next Friday.
Pep rallies are supposed to get the school spirit up for the students. Having a full week of these activities and dress down days for the students gets them excited to come to school and participate in these types of activities. It also gets the students more involved in the school’s sports because after the pep rally there’s usually a football game or another sort of game going on that the teachers encourage the students to go to. Mason Arnoldus who is a sophomore at Juan Diego says, “The homecoming pep rally helped my school spirit especially because I was new to this school.”
These pep rallies are usually held the day before a school dance, so coming up is the Sweethearts pep rally. This pep rally will be held on February 9th, the day before the sweethearts dance. The theme that all of the students are to wear is the colors grey or blue, depending on the grade you are in. Keurik Bare, who is a freshman at Juan Diego says, “I can’t wait to participate in the next pep rally coming up.” The sweethearts pep rally will be a contest between the grades and will basically work the same as the homecoming pep rally.
