Thanksgiving Food, Ranked

Ah, Thanksgiving: What a great time to get together with family and eat food that no one likes. Although Thanksgiving may be the most extravagant meal of the year, some of the traditional food dishes are gross, pointless, and, in my opinion, should be cut from the meal altogether. I mean, come on, who gets seconds of slimy cranberry sauce? Don’t get me wrong, I love Thanksgiving, but I think some dishes taint the holiday. So, which foods should you avoid and which foods should you get seconds of on Turkey Day? Here are all of the Thanksgiving classics ranked by me from worst to best:

9. Cranberry Sauce

An old-fashioned, gelatinous mess that, let’s face it, no one likes. It looks like it might taste like sweet jelly, but no. No matter how fancy you try to make it, this canned disgrace is slimy, grainy and just plain gross. Sorry grandma, this is definitely not going be on my plate this year.

8. Turkey

I know, I know, what is Thanksgiving without a turkey? But that dry meat is just an excuse to eat all of those yummy sides. Plus, if you fry it frozen, that bird can be deadly.

7. Stuffing

Dry bread stuffed up a turkey butt. Not only has this dish destroyed the awesomeness that is bread, it looks like literal barf. Case closed.

6. Rolls

CARBS. Need I say more?

5. Gravy

Whether it’s cream or brown, gravy is a great remedy for that dry white turkey meat and is perfect for leftovers sandwiches.

4. Mashed Potatoes

The starchy miracle that’s basically pureed french fries with butter. This dish takes up the most room on my plate.

3. Sweet Potatoes

The delicious dessert you can eat with your meal without your mom yelling at you.

2. Green Bean Casserole

This is the only way I will eat vegetables: With gooey cheese, bacon, and crispy fried onions. This side dish is hard to beat and I always go back for seconds.

1. Pumpkin Pie

What is Thanksgiving without a good slice of pumpkin pie? Pumpkin pie is not only my favorite dish on Thanksgiving but my favorite dessert of all time. Pumpkin pie is fall manifested as a dessert, with spices like nutmeg and ginger that not only smell good but are sure to melt your heart after your big meal.

What is your favorite Thanksgiving dish?

Mashed potatoes should be number one.
