As you drive down State street, you see lots of billboards, lights, and many storefronts. Among the busyness is a normal looking building with a welcome sign out front. The saying “don’t judge a book by it’s cover” applies to Chabaar Beyond Thai, which is found in the parking lot of a Savers, and across the street from Shane Co. The unassuming, yet charming, restaurant is definitely worth the visit if you want a variety of great food, a calm, feel-good atmosphere, and friendly people.

As soon as you walk in the doors, you feel the atmosphere change from outside. Plants, lights, and statues display the true Thai theme and add to the experience. Immediately, you are met by very friendly staff members who are more than welcoming. With an overall kind attitude to their customers, quick service, and happy smiles.

The menu is absolutely massive, ranging from Thai specialties, like pad thai, yellow curry, and tom yum soup to American favorites like chicken and waffles, reuben sandwiches, and garlic cheeseburgers. When ordering your food, you are asked how spicy you want your food, on a scale from zero to ten. Being strongly advised by staff not to order your food above a three, not being allowed to order anything spicier on your first visit. The food can be so spicy you are asked to sign a waiver.

With fairly average prices, and massive portions of food, you definitely get what you pay for. The food is very flavorful with lots of spice, and many sides like sticky rice and fruit. Chabaar Beyond Thai’s drink options are also very unique. Normal drinks like Coke Products are available, along with Thai iced tea, coffee, and even kombucha on tap.

The employees are very kind and extremely accommodating to your needs. When you go up to pay, you are given a Thai fruit candy in place of a mint. They also have the option to buy homemade vegan cookies. Ordering online for delivery is an option through Doordash, but if you want the full experience, have a meal inside.
