Utah is known for its collective obsession over  “dirty” sodas, but another lesser known yet growing obsession Utahns share is cookies. The Salt Lake Valley is littered with places to buy warm, or cold, chocolate chip cookies and everyone has their favorite place to get them.

Swig is a classic caterer to Draper moms’ soda fix for the day, but the business full title is Swig n’ Sweets. In case you forgot, the store offers an assortment of cookies. Their menu includes a frosted sugar cookie, the “Dirtball’, a chocolate cookie topped with chocolate frosting, and more. But don’t forget the classic chocolate chip cookie. However, Swig’s cookie is far from classic. When you think of a chocolate chip cookie, you often think of a warm and gooey, fresh baked dessert with chocolate melting at every bite, but Swig’s cookie is more like the dough your mother warned you not to eat as a kid. It is served cold and hard and although it is tasty, it is not my preferred choice when in need of a sweet treat.

This past summer, Crumbl opened up a new storefront in the Draper area and had everyone talking. Since opening, they have kept customers coming back with new specialty flavors each week in addition to the classic sugar cookie, as well as their soft chocolate chip cookie. They bake each cookie until it is crisp and done on the outside, but soft and doughy on the inside. Although their chocolate chip cookie lives up to the gooey expectation most people have, the milk chocolate chips and dough are extremely sweet and too much to handle in my opinion, especially since Crumbl cookies are so large. However if Crumbl is your favorite cookie fix, then you’re in luck because they will deliver fresh cookies straight to your door until midnight.

Chip Cookies has fewer locations throughout Utah, but in my opinion, the drive is worth the dessert. Much like Crumbl, Chip bakes their cookies just enough so that they are still soft and melty in the center. The semi-sweet chocolate cuts the sugariness of the dough just enough so that they are sweet, but not over the top. Chip also offers a new creation every month, but they choose to focus on the traditional chocolate chip cookie and the business even sells pre-made dough so that you can have a fresh baked treat whenever you like.

Each cookie spot is unique in its own way and offers something for everyone’s different tastes. Although all three offer delicious cookies, Chip is the clear winner in my opinion with its traditional sweet, soft and melty chocolate chip cookie.
