Juan Diego Falls to Summit Academy in the 3A State Semi-Final.

After a huge 27 point away win against Grantsville, Juan Diego took on Summit Academy this past Saturday in the 3A state semi-final game. Coming in the game, Summit Academy were favorites over Juan Diego and showed why very early on. Juan Diego started off their first offensive drive with a fumble, which allowed the Bears to get their first touchdown, in which Talmage Brown rushed for two yards. The PAT from Jared Arellano put the Bears up 7-0. Summit continued their dominance, causing another fumble and getting another touchdown less than 30 seconds later, again from Talmage brown. This time, the kick was blocked, advancing the bears to 13-0. In the second quarter, Brown ran for another touchdown about three minutes into the second quarter and the PAT from Arellano sent the bears to 20-0. The Bear’s next touchdown came from a 20-yard interception from Mason Shafer, but another failed kick put the Bears up to 26-0. One more touchdown came in this half, this time a passing touchdown from Kasey Briggs to Colin Dodge, and the kick from Arellano put Summit ahead of Juan Diego 33-0 at the half. Summit only scored one more touchdown in the game, again a pass from Kasey Briggs, but this time to Parker Clawson with a successful PAT from Arellano. The Eagles didn’t get shut out, though, as Colby Smith scored a touchdown midway through the fourth quarter, but failed the two-point conversion. The game ended 40-6, moving Summit Academy to the 3A state finals over last year’s champions, Juan Diego.
